Xserve Raid Discontinued

Apple has quietly discontinued the xserve raid it seems and has replaced it with a 3rd party option. The xserve raid site now redirects to here. This is a sad day in my book and I really hope this is not a sign of things to come. Does anyone have any experience with promise solutions?

Edit: My friend Sarah pointed out it is still shown on the UK Apple Site, though when you go to the store it shows the promise raid. Interesting.

Second edit, looks like this has now been changed.

Net Restore 3.4 Released! Now Leopard compatible

Today Mike Bombich released netrestore 3.4 which now supports Leopard. This is great news for mac admins everywhere as many have found apple's system image utility to be slow, unreliable and most features to be broken. The new version can be downloaded from bombich by clicking here!

Alden's Lab

I take care of one lab. In this lab all users use a single account (it is an open lab in the library). When I took over the care of this lab, there was a hook that would back up the home folder and place it in a tmp folder (it would save the 3 newest home folders) and then replace it with a default one. The problem with this is that it was very slow. The copying of the home folder took around 3 min each time (it did it at login).
